Britain’s Alex Williams spends his winters freeride skiing in Verbier, Switzerland, with his sights set on the Freeride World Tour. No stranger to competition, Williams grew up racing downhill mountain bikes on the junior World Cup. Skiing is the outlet that brings together everything he is passionate about. “The special thing about freeriding,” he says, “is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it, and that’s what I love about it. I’ve always preferred the trial and error way of learning, rather than to be imposed a set of rules.” Williams was the first skier to land a Cork 7 in a Junior competition, placed 4th in Junior Worlds despite a crash, made it to the podium in his first ever U18 freeride comp, and is travelling and making films with friends, playing around with the different ways their self-expression can manifest: Trial and error seems to be working out for him.
